How does tutoring help students?

Tutoring helps strengthen subject comprehension and examination performance, boosts confidence, and builds learning skills.

Below are some of the key benefits:

Academic benefits

Improved examination performance: Tutoring helps students prepare for exams, working on specific problem areas, leading to improved performance on the day.

Reinforced learning: It provides an opportunity to review key concepts and address confusion in a low-pressure environment.

Personalised approach: Tutors create individual lessons and activities to cater to a student's specific learning style and pace. They act as your child’s own private teacher.

Encourages inquisitiveness and risk-taking: At school, your child may not always feel comfortable asking or answering questions in front of their peers. Tutoring will help encourage your child to move out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves.

Independent learning: Tutoring equips students with the tools to become more independent learners and to take responsibility for their own study.

Positive workspace: Tutoring provides an environment free of distractions, with fewer students and disruptions around, so your child is better able to focus on learning.

Personal and long-term benefits

Increased confidence: Through receiving the resources and support they need to excel in school, students build self-esteem and a belief in their ability to succeed.

Boosted motivation: It can help students get back into a learning routine and feel more engaged with their studies.

Self-directed learning: With tutoring, your child will learn to take the initiative with their schoolwork and other related decision-making.

Skill development: It helps students develop crucial skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective study habits.

When are sessions available and what is the commitment expected?

Availability most commonly falls within the following UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) windows:

 Monday - Friday sessions 12.00-15:00

Saturday-Sunday sessions 06.00-09.00

Sessions can occasionally be arranged at times that are different from the above.

One to one tutoring sessions are offered year-round. Please contact Hannah directly for a consultation, which includes a conversation on current availability. If there are no spaces at the time of consultation, students can choose to join the waiting list and receive updates.

Blocks of four one to one sessions are offered to students. Some students may only require four sessions in total, to meet their objectives. Other students engage in a longer-term tutoring arrangement and continue to book in blocks of four on an ongoing basis. The frequency of sessions is determined during the initial 20 minute consultation, and can be changed through mutual agreement if requirements alter, once sessions are underway.

Masterclasses are run seasonally each year, from February to May, and are filled on a first come first served basis.

Masterclasses are offered as standalone individual events, and are open to all students, whether or not they receive one to one tuition from Hannah.

How do online lessons work?

All tutoring sessions and Masterclasses are conducted using the Google Suite. Once sessions have been booked, students will be sent a link to a Google Classroom specifically set up for them. Parents/guardians will be invited to the Classroom also. Links to Google Meet, Google Docs and all other resources used will all be shared through the Classroom. Google Classroom keeps a record of all files and activity, allowing students to access and refer back to materials at any time. The Classroom is continually available to students throughout their tutoring with Hannah Grant Academics.

Can I speak to you first to find out more?

Of course. All prospective new students (and parents/guardians) meet with me before any tutoring can take place, in order for both parties to make an informed decision on whether this is the right choice for each individual student.

Please enquire here and I will arrange a 20 minute consultation with you to discuss:

a) Your situation and specific objectives

b) If and/or how I can assist you in meeting them

c) If there is a good logistical fit regarding tutor-tutee availability
